Ok folks, the deadline has arrived! No further reviews posted here, please. The tallying begins!
The original Cannonball Read rules said:
No books smaller than 200 pages. Short story collections only count if they are at least 6 stories long. No graphic novels.
Since then, we’ve allowed graphic novels and audiobooks, and we’ve lowered the page limit to 100 pages. As we head into the next Read, what are your thoughts about these (few) limits?
Should we measure graphic novels in some way so there is some guideline? Is the 100 page page count still needed? Should we remove all limits?
Post in the comments below, I want to hear from you.
What were the three best and three worst books you read this year? They do not have to have been published this year, but I’m working on our best and worst lists for Pajiba.
So drop me a line or post in the comments below. If you include your review link, I’ll add it to the post.
Many, many thanks to narfna who sent me this awesome Tolkien box set as part of the CBR Secret Gifter Book Exchange. It’s been many years since I read these, and I’m really looking forward to refreshing my memory!
This has been a really neat addition to CBR, and I can’t wait to see the other gifts!
Happy Reading and Happy Holidays!
Even Stevens kindly informed me that for Black Friday Amazon.com is offering 30% off all books when you enter the code ‘BOOKDEAL’ at checkout through December 1, 2013 at 11:59pm PST. BUT FIRST you should make sure you use our affiliate link! Click this link to get to arrive at the amazon.com listing of the book, A Christmas Carol.
Once you get to the listing, just search for the books you want.
Cannonball Read will receive a percentage of everything you purchase in that shopping trip, which we’ll donate in entirety to the American Cancer Society. No extra charge is added to your purchase.
And don’t forget to enter ‘BOOKDEAL’ at checkout for your 30% off. See the details at amazon.com.
We’re heading into the home stretch of Cannonball Read 5. As of today you have 35 days left in 2013 to finish your books, reviews, and posts. Plans for Cannonball Read SIX are in the works with a brand new website being built for the next Read.
Also in the very near future, we’ll have t-shirts and other accessories available featuring the Godtopus reading graphic and slogan shown on the right. All of the proceeds from those sales will go to the American Cancer Society, as those do from the Cannonball Read Buy Hole*.
Registration for Cannonball Read 6 will open mid-December, and CBR6 kicks off on 1/1/14. Any questions? Drop me a line!
(*just click the link and shop, it’s that easy! Click it every time BEFORE you put your amazon items in your cart. No additional fees are added to your purchase.)
Jen K suggested that it would be fun to do a Cannonball Read (CBR) Secret Gifter Book Exchange. This is completely voluntary, but we hope that you’ll do your shopping by heading on down the Cannonball Read Buy Hole amazon.com affiliate link. Just click the link, gaze at Ryan Gosling’s soulful stare on the linked poster, and then search and shop for any of your amazon.com needs. Anything you buy in that shopping trip after clicking the link will generate a percentage for CBR – 100% of that money goes to the American Cancer Society. Remember: Click, shop, F— Cancer!
Jen K will be handling all of the arrangements for the exchange, so please email her directly with any questions. The instructions below are from Jen.
The time line:
- Sign up by 20 November.
- Send a package to your recipient by 10 December.
- Send an email to Jen when you send your package and when you receive your package so she can make sure everyone is on track. If you haven’t received a package by 1 Jan, send Jen an email.
- Post a picture of your gift in a post on the group blog, and tag it with BookExchange
How to sign up:
Send an email to Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org and include the following information:
- Your Full Name and Mailing Address
- Your CBR Name
- We have some international Cannonballers, so she needs to know if you’re willing to send internationally.
- Whether you wish to remain anonymous (keep it as a “Secret Santa”)
- Some information to help your gifter – a wish list with 5-10 books (make sure there are paperbacks included in this since hard covers can get expensive), a list of favored authors and genres – fortunately, with this blog we should be able to get some ideas about what everyone likes. Also, anything you absolutely wouldn’t read.
Food for thought:
If you send a used book, make sure it is in a good condition– think like new. Feel free to add something to the package, like candy, something bookish, or something festive. There isn’t a money constraint on this, because the guidance “send a book or two with a small something extra” should restrain people from going too crazy and keep the monetary amount within limits.
Enjoy and Happy Reading!
It’s true! We need to hear from you and what you think about Cannonball Read. Please fill out this survey and tell us your thoughts, dreams, desires, and wishes for the future of this wonderful, annual race!
