This is a book. More specifically, this is a book version of Important Things with Demetri Martin. One page he’s writing about a guy attempting to con people into coming to see his band perform, the next he’s drawing ponies with their ponytail in a second ponytail. Like on his short-lived television series, this scattered approach is bound to produce a fair share of duds.
Unlike on his show, however, the good does not outweigh the bad. There were enough gems to remind me why I used to watch his show, and was tremendously disappointed that the age-limit at the Improv prevented me from seeing his stand-up live, but I now see that he’s the type of comedian who just takes so many shots that one here and there is bound to go in.
