I’ve been feeling pretty depressed this year so I’ve been cheering myself up by reading romance novels. I’m up to book 11 in CBR V but I’ve only managed to review 4. I’m actually pretty embarrassed by what I’ve read this year, but since I couldn’t manage a quarter cannonball last time, I’ll take everything I can get.
Review #2 The Ugly Duchess by Eloisa James
Review #3 Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks
Review # 4 Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks
Dear God, all that man titty looks ridiculous set together.
You are among friends. I’ve been reading romance non-stop for a year now. I’m embarrassed by it too because we’ve been taught that a. they aren’t real books and b. that fiction by and for women is second class. I’ve read 10 so far this year, not counting the reject pile (http://mrsjulien.wordpress.com/2013/01/06/the-shameful-tally-2013/) and I read 134 last year (http://mrsjulien.wordpress.com/2012/08/08/the-shameful-tally/).
If you don’t want to be seen reading romance, there’s always the Outlander books. Have you read those? There’s even a Pajiba FB group for them, and many people can rationalize that the books are not the biggest, baddest romance novel of all time, but they totally are.
I love romance, I’m really not ashamed to read it. I just usually try not to go on massive romance benders. I guess just seeing it all lined up kind of startled me.
I can’t read Outlander because time-travel is a total non-starter for me. It’s such a classic though, and my aunt loves them. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.
I guess I was just projecting my own shame then. I have a lot.
I had not trouble with the time travel. It was the maguffin. There was some spiritual B.S. later in the books that I just COULD NOT deal with.
