This novel by Edmund White is an excellent introduction to this writing professor’s work. This is the story of two gay men in the early 1990s, one American living in Paris who is HIV positive, the other French and the “married man” of the title who is quickly diagnosed with AIDS. While the prose is more enjoyable that the story itself, I recommend it especially to those unaware of the issues faced by the gay community during that time period.
